Getting Android apps on your TV or Mobile device with a browser.

Downloading and installing Android apps that aren’t available in your device’s app store can be a bit of work but the methods shown here will keep you, your device, and all your personal data SAFE if you follow it. It takes a little more work than so called “code” or “linked” apps but, you can rest easy knowing that no one is collecting your information, accounts, or spying on your activities on your Android, Fire TV, or mobile device by using those code apps. In fact, I would NEVER allow a “code” or “linked” app ANYWHERE near my mobile devices as they contain more sensitive data than streaming devices. That’s not to say, though, that your streaming device doesn’t contain your personal email, paid accounts/credit card info, payment methods tied to said accounts, device activity/browsing history, or other sensitive data. You want to protect these kinds of things at ALL costs! This is why I mostly use modded apps, even with third-party apps, and why I DO NOT use “code” or “linked” apps at all. IF you do, that’s your decision, and we’re all adults. I’m only explaining why I use these methods and recommend them to you.

THIS METHOD ALSO WORKS WITH THE NINTENDROID FILES PAGE!

With that out of the way, these days, all you need is an internet browser that has the ability to download files. Once Downloader or Chrome sees that you have downloaded an APK (Android Package file, or, app) it will ask for permission to automatically install the apps on your device. Once you allow the permission, you’re all set. The TV BRO Browser takes one additional step but, I HIGHLY recommend using it anyway for this process. I will explain reasons why later but, personally, I would recommend installing the TV BRO BROWSER right after using Downloader to get it. As for browsers on ANY Android/Fire TV device, these are the ones I recommend (in this order). The best browsers are: 1. Chrome (on mobile devices or with a mouse on TV devices) 2. TV Bro (on Android TV/Fire TV devices) 3. Downloader by AFTV News (useful on TV devices but always loads mobile versions of sites and has compatibility issues/limited settings). Chrome and Downloader are in the Play Store, and in the Amazon Appstore (depending on your device and whether or not it’s a mobile or TV device). If mobile, use Chrome 100% of the time, and if Android TV or Fire TV, start with Downloader, and upgrade to TV BRO right after. Keep Downloader for certain things, by all means, but it’s not recommended for this process, nor as a reliable browser in general on TV devices.

I will show you how to get the TV BRO BROWSER, which settings to change in it, and how to install apps with it. I’m not saying this is the BEST way, but it IS the SAFEST way, hands down, to get your own apps. First, let’s install the TV Bro Browser app, since you MUST use it for my favorite APK website, Mobilism. If you use Chrome, or can get TV Bro from the Play Store, skip all this as it won’t pertain to you.

In the Downloader browser on Fire TV, type 14480 into the address bar and click GO. For Android TV, the TV Bro app is in the Play Store!

Alternate URL’s for TV BRO: tinyurl.com/tvb161 -or- Downloader short code: 14480 -or- in another browser: aftv.news/14480

Install the app when prompted then, click DONE, then delete the downloaded APK file as you no longer need it.

TV BRO INITIAL SETUP (one time):

FIRST, open TV Bro and change a couple of settings so that you will get the best experience with it. On the first launch, keep the search engine set to Google and click SAVE.

Next, click the back button on your remote one time to bring up the on-screen controls in TV Bro, then open the settings menu by clicking the gear icon.

Next, click the small arrow to the right of “Set User Agent String” and set this to “Chrome Desktop.”

Also, if you will be using Mobilism, turn OFF “toggle ad blocking” as well (VERY IMPORTANT STEP FOR MOBILISM WEBSITE!)

TURN THIS BACK ON LATER TO AVOID MOST ADS ON WEBSITES

That’s it and, now, you are all set for browsing the web and downloading apps. You can leave the “ad blocking” turned on if you aren’t using sites that won’t allow you to continue if they detect an ad-blocker so, this is up to you but, the Mobilism website will NOT let you download apps if it detects ad-blocking in your TV browser.

So, now that you have TV Bro installed and setup, let’s move on. Leave your TV Bro browser app open and continue reading to see where, and how to download and install APK’s (apps).

Now, it’s time to download and install some apps!

“Where do you get Android APK’s?” you might ask. From APK websites of course! There are TONS of them, and there is ZERO need to mess with any of those shady “code/linked” apps that do less than scrupulous things on your device!

(Now, that’s not to say this process doesn’t have its own risks but, once you know what to lookout for, the chances of downloading anything unwanted becomes very low.)

Follow along as I show you how to get almost any app you could ever want, or need, from my short list of favorite APK websites. These three sites contain almost every app available for both mobile and TV devices! Later, I will also show you how to scan any apps you may be unsure of for malware/threats, as well as other tips and tricks.

Let’s begin with number 1 on my list of TOP 3 APK WEBITES:

In TV Bro, press back to bring up the on-screen controls and, move your cursor to the address bar (where it says “about:blank”). This is where you will type in the URL’s for your favorite websites. (No need to clear the text or delete it, just begin typing your web address.)

Finally, enter the address: mobilism.org and click search, go, or enter on your on-screen keyboard.

1. Mobilism – http://mobilism.org

THE MOBILISM HOME PAGE

(NOTE* – If you see a three bars menu button at the top you are NOT in “Desktop” mode in your browser and much of this tutorial will NOT work for you. MAKE SURE you are in Desktop mode!)

Mobilism is my number one favorite website for Android apps, games, and even books. It requires a free account to be able to use the search feature but, isn’t entirely necessary if what you are looking for is very popular (you can always browse the Android section/App releases categories without an account).

I’d recommend setting up a FREE account though as the search function is invaluable in saving you time. It only takes a moment to create an account and verify your email address, and you can do it on your mobile, PC, or even on a TV device with a browser. I’d recommend a “dummy” email (one you don’t use for anything personal, sensitive, or payment related). I always got these apps with my PC, then uploaded them to the cloud to add to the apps page before but, here, I will show you how to download them directly to the device you want to install them on.

First up, Mobilism.org is focused on mostly “modded” apps, both official and third-party, so what this means is that most of their apps are ad-free, have paid features unlocked, have unwanted spying/tracking code removed, and is a great place to get those third-party streaming apps that aren’t in the app stores on your device.

If this interests you, go ahead and sign up for a free Mobilism account now. If not, continue on to the next two sites below.

Once logged in, you can use the search bar or, simply browse the Android section by “App Releases” (latest uploads to the site) or by “App Releases by Category” (broken down into sections like players, utilities, etc.)

Now, this is where things get tricky because, if you don’t know what to look out for, you could end up downloading something that isn’t even an app, or not the app you wanted because, these link sites that you get sent to for downloading, are free file hosts with LOTS of ads on them (modders need money too it seems).

Sometimes the download buttons you see won’t be the actual thing you need to click to download the app for free if you’re not paying attention and, many of them, will try to get you to sign up for “premium” accounts to skip the ads. It’s completely unnecessary to pay for this and can be done 100% FREE, just pay attention to what you are clicking on. After doing it a few times, you will learn which link sites are the least annoying and the best, as well as where to click. Don’t worry, I will show you the two most popular sites and how to navigate them without issue. The best ones on Mobilism (at the time of writing this) are, in my opinion, the “userupload” links and the “uploadrar” links though, technically, all of them will work. These are just the less annoying ones with the fastest download speeds. An adblocker app or ad blocking browser extension on your PC browser will help greatly in cutting out all these annoying ads and/or fake buttons if you are using a PC. I will teach you here though where to click, and what NOT to click when using the browser on your TV device.

Once you find the app you want on Mobilism, and click on its name, on the download page for the app, it will look like this when you scroll down to the download links:

**Take note of the download links and the names of the sites. You will learn, over time, the best ones to use and I will show you here the best, at the time of writing this.

In the above example, I have clicked on the “userupload” site link to download the app. Once there, scroll down until you see “I’m not a robot” and check the box here to complete the “captcha.”

Next, solve the “captcha” (usually picking 3 pictures of the same thing). In this case, it was all the pics that contain “crosswalks.” Click them, then click “VERIFY.” If you mess up, try again.

Next, scroll down until you see the button that says “CREATE DOWNLOAD LINK” and click on it with your cursor on the button.

Finally, click the “DOWNLOAD NOW” button with your cursor. DO NOT click on any other buttons or links!

When prompted, ALLOW the permission for TV Bro to access files on your device (REQUIRED for downloading files).

You will see a notification that the file is downloading once you grant the permission. (You only have to allow the permission one time, then TV Bro will download files from then on.)

Now, click the back button to bring up the on-screen controls and click on the down arrow to see your downloads. DO NOT click on anything else that may pop up on the next page after downloading files. It does NOT matter what it says, anything here is either an AD, or a FAKE warning! IGNORE IT! Simply move on and open your downloads.

Once you click the down arrow, your downloaded files will appear here. Click ONCE to open and install the file (app) or, LONG PRESS, on the file to delete it after you have installed it.

That’s it. That is the general process for downloading and installing apps with TV Bro on the Mobilism site. Now, let’s take a look at one more of the file hosts on Mobilism so that you know where to and where NOT to click. Again, once you do this a few times, you will get used to the links and where to click so that you don’t accidentally download something you don’t want. If you do, that’s okay, just don’t install it, and delete the file right away in TV Bro by LONG PRESSING on the file.

Here is an example of a file on Mobilsim that is hosted on the “uploadrar” site. Let’s look at it. Click the link that take you to the file download page on uploadrar.

After you click the link, on this site, scroll down until you see “FREE DOWNLOAD.” DO NOT click anywhere else or any other buttons!

On the next page, wait for any timers to count down (if any) then, scroll down and click on “CREATE DOWNLOAD LINK.”

The “direct download” button is FAKE or will ask you to pay for an account.

On the next page, click on the “CLICK HERE TO DOWNLOAD” button. ANY other button or link on this page will take you to something you don’t want. So, this is the ONLY place you want to click on this page.

Finally, on the uploadrar site, you will see the notification again that the file is downloading. Again, press the BACK button on your remote to bring up the on-screen controls, and click the down arrow to see your files. Click on the file to install it, then long press on it to delete it after installing.

To exit TV Bro, simply click on the X on the on-screen menu.

Next, let’s take a look at the number 2 apk website APKPure – www.apkpure.com

This site is more traditional in that, there are no third-party download link sites like on Mobilism and this site hosts mostly “official” apps (apps from official stores like Google Play and the Amazon Appstore).

This site does, at times, offer “xapk” files though and, you do NOT want these types of files as they are a pain to install and will require another app to install them. On the apkpure website, and any others, you ONLY want .apk files so, pay attention to the type of file you are downloading.

Open the apkpure site by typing apkpure.com into the address bar in TV Bro. Apkpure doesn’t require any account and all you need to do to find the app you are looking for is type its name into the search box at the top right of the page and click go or click the magnifying glass.

So, let’s search for an app everyone knows and loves but that may not be in your device’s official app store like, Peacock TV. Type peacock in the search bar and click go.

Click the app name or icon to go to the download page for that app.

On the next page, you will see a green download button. MAKE SURE that the button has .APK on it, if it says .xapk or anything else, you DO NOT want this file so, search for another version. I will show you how to search for other versions in a moment but, for now, click the download apk button to download the file.

Wait for the file to finish downloading then, like before, click the back button once to bring up the on-scree menu and click the down arrow to see your downloaded files in TV Bro. Click the file to install it, or long press on the file after installing to delete it.

After you have installed the file, in TV Bro, bring up your downloads list again then long press on the file to delete it. This will save space on your internal storage. If you want to keep the file, use a file manager app to move it to a USB device or somewhere else.

As you can see, the apkpure website is MUCH easier to use and navigate but, as mentioned, they may not have many third party apps for streaming and, most all of their apps will be the official versions, meaning, no unlocked paid features or anything of that nature. Apkpure is simply a way to get official apps on your device when you can’t get them from your device’s app store. Let’s move on.

Next, we will take a look at another popular apk website, the number 3 site on my list, called APKMirror – apkmirror.com

This site is very similar to apkpure but will have TV Versions of apps in a lot of cases, as well as third-party apps sometimes. If you are looking for the TV version of an app, in most cases, apkmirror will have it. Let’s look at the Peacock app again but, this time, on the apkmirror site.

Enter apkmirror.com into the address bar in TV Bro and click search/go etc. To search, simply type the app name into the search bar like on apkpure and click search/go etc.

Let’s search for Peacock.

After searching for Peacock and clicking Go/Search/etc. notice how there are different versions on the list of results. Not only are there mobile and TV versions but, you will also notice that there are newer and older versions of the app based on the version number. Sometimes, you will need an older version in order for the app to work on your device (such as Netflix) but, usually, you want the latest version available since many of these apps will force you to update in order to keep using them.

So, choose the version you want for your device and click the app name with version number to download that particular version. If you get an ad on the screen just go back. On the next page, click the blue “DOWNLOAD APK” button to download the file.

Again, you will see the notification that the file is downloading and, once finished, click the down arrow to view your downloaded files and install them. Click the file name to install then, after installing, long press on the file to delete it.

Again, make sure to delete the files after installing them to save storage space on your device.

It’s that simple and about all there is to downloading and installing your own apps. You won’t EVER have to rely on ANYONE else to upload, update, or make an app store to be able to find the apps you want/need. You will also be safer as there are no telling what half these code/linked apps inject or steal from your device. I just do not trust them. Hopefully this tutorial has helped you and, now, you can teach others this method so that no one needs to ever bother with these scammy apps out here nor will you ever have to wait around for updates or ask someone to upload it or share a “code” with you. You will be completely self-sufficient!

TIPS, TRICKS, AND ADVICE

The sites I’ve shown you above are, generally, safe places to download apps and other files BUT, even official apps can have things in them that are undesirable. The modded apps on Mobilism usually remove any tracking, analytics, spyware, etc. but even modders can’t always remove everything.

If you are ever unsure of an app, go to www.virustotal.com and upload the apk file to scan it for anything malicious. More than 2 “red” results (or hits, as they are commonly called) is a good indicator that there is something unwanted in the app and that you shouldn’t install it on your device, ESPECIALLY your mobile device where you have the most sensitive data! Again, I would STRONGLY advise against installing ANY third-party or “code” apps on your mobile device. If someone hacks your accounts, steals your identity, or racks up tons of bills in your name, don’t say I didn’t warn you. Now, of course, these are EXTREME cases and instances but, it’s not impossible so, just don’t do it!

On your TV device though, type in virustotal.com into the address bar in your browser. Click on “CHOOSE FILE” and choose the file you want to scan. NOTE* – You may need Mousetoggle to change the directory of files.

Select the file and, it should automatically upload but, if not, click on “confirm upload” and wait for the scan to complete.

ANY results that returned in the color red mean that there is something either unwanted or malicious about the app/file. This doesn’t always mean it’s something bad but, again, more than two red results is usually a good indicator that something malicious is being done by the app once installed. “PUP” or “potentially unwanted package” notices are usually common with modded official apps as these require a signature change by the modder in order to avoid Google/Amazon licenses etc. If you see one or two “pup” warnings on an app, it’s usually okay so don’t worry about these. IF there are more than two pup warnings, I’d be cautious about installing the app. Ask around in the community to see what others think or, even better, check the comments section on Mobilism for the app in question.

Now, if you see “Adware” or “Trojan” or something similar on an app scan result, even if there is only one, use caution here as well. Use EXTREME caution if there is more than one of this type of “hit” on virustotal. These usually mean the app will inject malware or spyware on your device or will steal your sensitive data and info. Again, this is VERY uncommon on the three sites above but, just warning you in case you see a new app or a less popular app that doesn’t have much presence online. These can be risky. Stick to popular apps and apps you know and trust. I would advise against trying just any and every app that is released until it gains popularity or others are talking about it in the comments sections.

Now, as I said above, I would tell you more of the reasons to use TV Bro for this process and the main reason is: Downloader will NOT work with many of the file host sites on Mobilism and will cause/have issues with other APK websites such as links not forwarding correctly, only loading ads instead of downloading the files, or the pages won’t let you load them because of the ad-blocking in Downloader being detected by these sites. Downloader also ONLY loads the mobile versions of websites, in which case, your device will try to force you to install the mobile apps for these sites. Trust me, just use TV Bro for downloading APK’s and general web surfing. You will run into FAR less issues. Plus, desktop websites generally work better than mobile versions of sites anyway. As I mentioned, you may want to toggle the ad blocking off and on in TV Bro depending on what you are doing online but, generally, you MUST have it turned off for the sites that are used on Mobilism.

Finally, here are some other apk websites that I’ve come across in my online searches that have apps and games and other things. With those sites that weren’t mentioned above, use a little more caution, ESPECIALLY with Android games! Android games run a higher risk of having something suspicious in them if you get them from a public site like these, so, scan them before installing!

Thanks for reading, and check out our other blog posts for TONS of useful information, links, tutorials, and files! ENJOY!
